Employers like it because it keeps them from racking up unnecessary labor costs. When store traffic is low, the system calls for fewer employees when the system projects more patrons, it demands more workers. Software-based scheduling systems do the trick by linking labor supply to consumer demand. The industry’s profit margins are tight, says Ostrega, and companies are looking to extract savings however they can. Under this system, workers are required to be “on call” to come in and work on a particular day even if they’re not scheduled to do so. Workers Employed in the Retail Trade Industries (Seasonally Adjusted) | FindTheDataĪn especially harsh practice among retailers is what’s known as just-in-time or on-call scheduling. Joshua Ostrega, chief operating officer and co-founder of WorkJam, admits the 56 percent figure came as a bit of a shock. And while policies of this sort save companies money by allowing them to tailor schedules to an expected flow of customer traffic, workers say it's the source of headaches. Both trends run rampant in the fast-growing service sector, especially in low-wage fields like retail and fast food. What’s more, an astounding 56 percent say they get their schedules a week or less in advance. Nearly three in 10 hourly workers in the United States say they rarely get consistent work schedules, according to a study released Tuesday by WorkJam, a firm that specializes in workforce scheduling technology. Eventually, it became too much to juggle. One week, she’d be scheduled for a 8 a.m.-to-noon shift on a particular day the next, it might be a 5 p.m.-to-11 p.m. But then her hours would fluctuate drastically. She would learn about her weekly work schedule three weeks in advance, which wasn’t too bad. Roy-Rankin says she would have to submit requests to take time off for spring break or visit her parents weeks, if not months in advance - otherwise she’d be slotted to work without recourse. Target has an unforgiving scheduling system. Before she graduated in May, she says it was a constant challenge to balance her studies and social life with her part-time job - usually around 20 hours a week at just under $10 an hour. Roy-Rankin went to college nearby, at the University of Illinois. “Otherwise, I honestly, probably, would’ve stayed.” I was at the mercy of the scheduling system,” she says. But last week, after two years as a sales associate, Roy-Rankin quit her job. She says she loved her job at the retailer's store in Champaign, Illinois. She had great bosses, got along well with her co-workers and enjoyed the employee discounts. Brianna Roy-Rankin, 23, is just the kind of worker Target would like to retain and promote.

The Shark Stratos UltraLight is among the best Shark vacuums for pet hair that we've tested and a great choice if you're looking for something a little more affordable. While this may seem like a fairly minor change in design, it greatly improves user maintenance, as you can now easily clear away any stuck-on debris or tangled strands of hair, making it the best Shark vacuum for pet hair we've tested. This also ties into its one major advantage over the Stratos, not to mention most other Shark vacuums: you can completely remove this brushroll from its floorhead. Instead of a dual-roller setup, it has only a single fluffy roller with angled fins that reduce the chances of hair buildup and provide surface agitation on carpets. It uses a different floorhead design compared to the Stratos as well. It can easily clear away debris on hard floors, and while it has a less powerful suction motor than the Stratos, it's still capable of handling most kinds of messes on carpets. That isn't to say it isn't a good overall performer. However, its lower purchase price comes with a few compromises you'll need to make do with a less potent suction motor and a smaller battery, which can only offer a max runtime of about 40 minutes compared to the Stratos' approximate hour-long runtime. This cordless stick vacuum shares quite a bit with the flagship Shark Stratos Cordless, with the same Clean Sense IQ automatic power adjustment and odor-neutralization systems. The Shark Cordless Pro is the best cordless Shark vacuum in the upper mid-range price bracket we've tested. However, it lacks the cordless model's automatic power adjustment feature and has a much bulkier upright body. If you don't want to worry about running out of charge, the Shark Stratos Upright is a solid option with a substantially greater debris capacity. This vacuum can run for up to an hour on a charge, which is good by the standards of other cordless vacuums. Unfortunately, despite being advertised as self-cleaning, pet hair can still get trapped in the floorhead, and since this primary brushroll isn't removable, it can be a nuisance to clean. It has the newest iteration of Shark's DuoClean twin-roller floorhead, comprised of a soft roller and a finned multi-surface roller. The vacuum's folding wand makes it easy to clean under most furniture since you won't have to crouch deeply, and it reduces its vertical footprint when stowed away. It also features an odor-neutralizing system that works via a replaceable cartridge in its floorhead, which emits a detergent-like scent as you clean. This includes its Clean Sense IQ system, which uses infrared sensors to measure how much debris is collected and allows the vacuum to adjust its suction power as necessary. It's the flagship model in Shark's lineup of cordless stick vacuums, and as such, it's loaded with many convenience features. The best Shark vacuum we've tested is the Shark Stratos Cordless. Over their heads the worms have their names and hit points. The image illustrates a match between three teams of worms in a pirate-themed map. These often lead to very technical combinations where, for example, a worm is first hit with a grenade and is then thrown against a mine which sets off another worm, which hits a third worm who slips into the water. Also, in addition to the nature-made obstacles, the maps may contain land mines which explode when a worm comes close to one, and barrels which explode when shot, spreading out some burning napalm. The landscape can be deformed with any weapon, forcing the players to adapt to changing environments. For some weapons, such as grenades, holding the launching key longer shoots them further. Some of these weapons are present in the worms' initial arsenal while others can be collected from randomly appearing crates during the game. There are also an array of special weapons, such as Armageddon (meteor shower) or the infamous Concrete Donkey. The worms have an arsenal of dozens of weapons, ranging from longbows to bazookas and from fireball to Holy Hand Grenades. The worms can walk and jump around and use tools such as the ninja rope and parachute to move to otherwise unreachable locations. Like its predecessors, Worms World Party is a side-scrolling video game involving controlling a team of worms and using a collection of weaponry to eliminate any opposing teams. Gameplay Worms World Party screenshot illustrating several worms and some landscape deformed by explosions. Worms World Party was the last two-dimensional title in the main series before transitioning to 3D graphics, with Worms 3D as the first fully 3D Worms title. Some found it to be an improvement to an already good game, whilst others saw it as being too derivative of its predecessor and not worthwhile for Worms Armageddon players. As with the previous games in the series, players take turns controlling their teams and using available projectiles, firearms, explosives, and equipment to destroy all opposing teams and manoeuvre across a specified and highly destructible map.Īlthough fairly well received upon release, the overall reception of Worms World Party has subsequently become mixed amongst the Worms community. Rewards given to high ranked teams.Worms World Party is a 2001 artillery turn-based tactics video game developed by Team17, and is the sequel to Worms Armageddon in the Worms series. Player take on a number of computer teams in an ever-increasing spiral of difficulty.

I didn’t expect each role to be fully motion captured, but they should be at least somewhat lifelike. The stilted walking and odd hand movements were immersion-breaking throughout. Ultimately, Resurgence’s biggest issue overall is its animations. Instead, it comes off as a mask for a budget game that needed about six months longer in the oven. It seems like Dramatic Labs was going for a comic book aesthetic, and it doesn’t quite pull it off. Because the game is stylized and uses exaggerated colors, the amount of blue can be overwhelming sometimes. For some reason, instead of getting an upgrade to the latest LCARS, it retained the blue input system that the Enterprise-A and Excelsior were equipped with. The Resolute’s interior is primarily based on the Excelsior as seen in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country and the Voyager episode “Flashback.” As such, Dramatic Labs has stuck with a similar interior design. That being said, everything is pretty blue. Most Star Trek productions center around the latest and greatest vessels, and it’s interesting to get another look at life on one of the fleet’s workhorses. The USS Resolute, being made up of surplus Excelsior and Miranda-class parts, is a blend of narrower, segmented corridors from the TOS-era movies and the bright, carpeted aesthetic of the Galaxy-class. The art direction is great, and you can tell that fans of the franchise are behind it. Visually, Star Trek: Resurgence is a mixed bag. It would make more sense for Spock to be on Romulus helping the Unification movement than for him to mediate a conflict between two random non-Federation members.īuy the Star Trek: Resurgence prequel comics on Amazon I’m blue It’s 2380 in the game, and the Romulan Senate was just assassinated a year before. However, the inclusion of Spock is a bit much. The story is the highlight in Resurgence, and it does a great job of capturing the feeling of an episode of TNG. However, it becomes evident that things aren’t as simple as they seem, and the ion storm has properties that haven’t been seen before. The famed Ambassador Spock himself is coming along to help with the negotiations, and despite the two species’ history, it looks like it’ll be a fairly straightforward diplomatic mission. However, a chance appearance of an intense ion storm has negated that advantage and allowed the more primitive race to throw off the yoke of their oppressors. At first glance, it appears that one has used its technological superiority to subjugate the other. His focus is on the engineering and slice-of-life aspects of living on a starship, and you’ll be responsible for helping perform basic maintenance and diagnostic tasks.Īfter being refit, the Resolute’s first mission is to mediate a conflict between two races. When not facing the trials and tribulations of being a senior officer on the upper decks, you’ll take the role of Petty Officer Carter Diaz down in the bowels of the Resolute. Playing as Rydek, you’ll have to navigate the crew’s misgivings and decide whether Captain Solano is being unfairly judged or is incompetent and a danger to the ship. Many also resent that he brought an outsider in to become XO instead of promoting from within. Many of them blame the ship’s captain, Zachary Solano, for the incident that severely damaged the Resolute and killed the previous first officer. The game picks up a few months after the prequel comic series ends, and Hydek joins a shaken and distrustful crew. The first, Commander Jara Rydek, is arriving to fill the first officer post on the USS Resolute that was opened when the previous XO died. In Star Trek: Resurgence, you play as two characters: If you didn’t know this trick, it’s one of my favorite short cuts. I had them color match my paint to match the white in my wallpaper. I was adding one wall of wallpaper in her room and I knew I wanted the other three walls to match the white that is in the wallpaper. I had them color match my paint to match wallpaper I was using in her room too I technically did not pick a white paint color from Behr. Most recently, I’ve been looking for a good white to paint my youngest daughter’s room and this is how this post was born.ĭisclaimer… after much stressing out about a white paint color.for my youngest daughter’s room, I decided it was best to do my tried and true method of getting the perfect paint color. That is when I will highly recommend Benjamin Moore’s Advanced line to paint your cabinets. But if you want to save some moolah, just go get yourself some Behr, K? I have used both Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore before and they are also great paints. I am not knocking Sherwin Williams or Benjamin Moore either. (And for the record, Behr has no idea who the heck I am. You might have people tell you that the paint colors being color matched at Behr aren’t exactly similar to the real deal. They have all of the formulas saved in their computer. If you are wanting a popular color from Benjamin Moore or Sherwin Williams, you can likely walk into Home Depot empty handed. I didn’t even bring a paint swatch with me. I knew I wanted to use Cloud Cover my Benjamin Moore. I painted my oldest daughter’s room a few years ago. I color match all of those popular paint colors from Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore at Behr. I’ve even had professional painters request that I buy Behr paint for them to paint our house. I’ve even painted my doors with Behr Paint I’ve used Behr paint throughout my whole house. You all should know by now that I love me some Behr paint. Armed with God's Holy Artifact Multi-Purpose Tool from the get-go because of his wish to be a farmer, Machio's location resides deep within an area known for causing a potentially heated conflict between kingdoms, but he doesn't care about at the very slightest. Recognized by God giving him a second chance at life because of what he went through of a life constantly filled with bad luck, He grants Machio the Omnipotent Farming Tool and lands him in the same typical forested area that's far from civilization. Meet Hiraku Machio, the 39-year-old guy who died of the typical terminal illness in real life and got Isekai-ed into another world. And given today's landscape of the Isekai/fantasy genre, it's already washed out of its welcome faster than one could ever imagine. 14 volumes of content (as if the time of this review) in the few years since its serialization to now, I really question myself: is it THIS easy to hardsell to Japanese manga/novel companies that the idea of turning Rune Factory into a light novel is a noble concept? Sure, the executives would want to believe so, because while this contributes to sales, we the audience just get wholesomely fumbled around a setting like this which just works decent at best. Unfortunately, this being a Syosetu title that has been launched since the very tail end of 2016 and earning as much as Well, I mean, for a title like lone novelist Kinosuke Naito's Isekai Nonbiri Nouka a.k.a Farming Life in Another World, the idea of getting a headstart if you're a rather new author trying to nitpick about what has NOT come out of the overly saturated Isekai/fantasy genres in the past decade. Oh god, here we go again with another Isekai/fantasy show, only this time, try to guess what it is imitating from the real world: that's right, Stardew Valley, or more appropriately, Rune Factory. |
